How to Use Drone Footage in Your Video Production

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out in the world of photo shoots, we believe that everyone has something to learn from each other. As a qualified drone pilot, I’m often asked how drone footage can be used in video production. Here are some tips for incorporating drones into your next video project:

Tip #1: Use drone footage to capture aerial shots of landscapes, buildings, or other locations that are difficult or impossible to reach with traditional camera equipment. This can add a unique and visually stunning element to your video.

Tip #2: Use drones to capture smooth, dynamic movement shots of people, objects, or actions. Drones can provide a level of flexibility and mobility that traditional cameras cannot match, allowing you to create cinematic reveals and follow-shots that truly elevate your production.

Tip #3: Use drone footage to create time-lapse sequences that show the passage of time in a visually compelling way. This can be especially effective when capturing sunrises, sunsets, or other natural phenomena.

Tip #4: Use drones to capture footage of events or situations that would be challenging to access with traditional cameras, such as concerts, sporting events, or large gatherings, giving your audience a fresh perspective they wouldn’t normally see.

Recommended Drone Equipment for Professional Video Production

For businesses looking to incorporate drone footage into their video strategy, I recommend considering the following equipment(I am a DJI Fan):

  • DJI Mavic 3 Pro or Air 3s – Perfect balance of image quality and portability
  • ND filters – Essential for controlling exposure in bright conditions
  • Extra batteries – Always carry at least 3 for extended shoots
  • Robust carry case – Protect your investment during transport
  • Tablet with sun hood – For clearer viewing of your footage in bright conditions. Check out how to pick the right one – Click here!

Remember that drone operations require proper certification (like my A2 Certificate of Competency recognised by the UK CAA) and awareness of local regulations. Always check airspace restrictions before flying!

The Power of Storytelling

The Power of Storytelling in Video Production

Ciao everyone and welcome to the EMV Video Production blog! That’s why we’re committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive community where everyone can feel comfortable sharing their ideas. So, are you ready for Blog number 5?

Storytelling is at the heart of video production, and for good reason. When done well, storytelling can transport viewers to another world, evoke emotions, and create a connection that lasts long after the video ends.

Here are some ways in which storytelling can elevate your video production:

  1. Storytelling helps to establish an emotional connection between the viewer and the subject matter. By tapping into the viewer’s emotions, you can create a more engaging and memorable video experience.
  2. Storytelling allows you to convey complex messages in a simple and easy-to-understand way. Whether it’s through the use of metaphors, allegories, or characters, storytelling can break down complex concepts and make them more relatable.
  3. Storytelling provides context and depth to the visuals. By providing a narrative that explains why certain images or scenes are important, you can create a more immersive viewing experience.
  4. Storytelling helps to create a sense of continuity and flow throughout the video. By using a consistent narrative thread, you can guide the viewer through the video and keep them engaged from start to finish.

5 Tips for Visual Storytelling

Tip #1 - Use High-Quality Visuals

Use high-quality images and videos to showcase your products or services in the best possible light. This could include product photography, testimonials from satisfied customers, or behind-the-scenes footage of your team at work.

Tip #2 - Be Consistent with Branding

Keep it simple and consistent across all your visual content. Use a consistent colour scheme, font, and tone of voice to create a cohesive look and feel that reflects your brand identity.

Tip #3 - Add Storytelling

Use storytelling techniques to bring your visual content to life. Tell a narrative that resonates with your audience, whether it’s through a series of images or a short video.

Tip #4 - Optimise for Platforms

Make sure your visual content is optimised for different platforms. Whether you’re sharing on social media, your website, or email marketing campaigns, make sure it looks great and is easy to consume.

Tip #5 - Track & Tweak with Analytics

Use analytics to track the performance of your visual content and adjust your strategy accordingly. Measure engagement, click-through rates, and conversion rates to see what’s working and what needs improvement.

The Future of Video Production

The Future of Video Production

Ciao everyone and welcome to the EMV Video Production blog!! Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out in the world of photo shoots, we believe that everyone has something to learn from each other. That’s why we’re committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive community where everyone can feel comfortable sharing their ideas. So, are you ready for Blog number 3?

The Future of Video Production: What’s Coming Next?

As a video producer, I’m always on the lookout for the latest trends and innovations in our industry. Technology is evolving faster than ever, and it’s transforming how we tell stories through video. If you’re looking to stay ahead of the curve, here are some of the most exciting trends shaping the future of video production:

1. The Rise of AI in Video Creation

Artificial intelligence is no longer just a buzzword — it’s changing the way we plan, shoot, and edit videos. Tools like Runway ML, Pika Labs, and Google Veo 2 are letting creators generate scenes, visual effects, and even stylised edits with a few prompts.

These AI tools don’t replace creativity — they amplify it. Whether you’re cutting a social reel or building cinematic B-roll, AI is helping us get there faster and with more flexibility.

2. 360° Video and Immersive Content

As virtual reality gains traction, we’re seeing a big shift toward 360-degree videos. Whether viewed on VR headsets like Apple Vision Pro,  XREAL One AR or Meta Quest 3, this format gives viewers the ability to explore a scene from every angle — like being inside the story.

It’s not just cool tech — it’s a way to build deep audience engagement. Platforms like Insta360, Meta Horizon, and YouTube VR are making this format more accessible than ever.

3. Drone Footage That Takes You Higher

Drone content continues to be one of the most impactful ways to grab attention. It brings scale, motion, and energy to video in a way that static shots can’t.

As drones become more accessible, brands of all sizes are using them to show off facilities, events, locations, and more. Whether it’s a smooth tracking shot over Oxford or an epic reveal of a product launch, drone footage gives you that cinematic edge. Checkout our Blog about drone footage

4. AI-Powered Video Editing: Smarter, Faster Workflows

We’re also seeing massive innovation in AI-assisted editing. Think tools that cut clips, suggest transitions, or colour match footage — all with minimal input.

These tools (Descript, Wisecut, Captions and more)are designed to speed up the boring bits, so you can focus on creative choices that matter. It’s especially helpful for batch content, social media repurposing, or tight turnaround jobs.

Ready to Future-Proof Your Brand’s Video Strategy?

The future of video production is already here — and it’s exciting. Whether you’re looking to integrate AI, experiment with immersive formats, or simply upgrade your visual storytelling, there’s never been a better time to explore what’s possible. EASY Cinematic Lighting Types Blog

EASY Cinematic Lighting Types

Ciao everyone and welcome to the EMV Video Production blog! Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out in the world of photo shoots, we believe that everyone has something to learn from each other. That’s why we’re committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive community where everyone can feel comfortable sharing their ideas. Hey, are you ready for Blog number 2?
👉Watch me 😎

It’s time to sculpt faces, add drama, and create moods that mesmerise, all with the flick of a switch. My inspiration came from the incredibly talented @jesil_ok

1. Rembrandt: The Dramatic Look

  • Key Light: Softbox placed slightly above and to the side of the subject. Watch for that iconic triangle of light on the opposite cheek.

  • Fill Light: Add a subtle fill on the shadow side to soften without losing the Rembrandt signature.

2. Butterfly: Soft & Serene Beauty

    • Key Light: Place a softbox directly above your subject to mimic natural window light.

    • Fill Light: Reflector or bounce underneath to soften under-eye shadows. Perfect for beauty or editorial looks.

3. Split: Edgy & Bold

      • Key Light: Narrow beam (like a snoot or gridded softbox) splitting the face in two.

      • Fill Light: Optional. A soft touch on the shadowed side can add dimension without killing the contrast.

4. Rim: Luminous Outlines

        • Back Light: Place a light behind your subject to create a glowing halo around the head and shoulders.

        • Key Light: Add a soft side light to gently shape the face without overpowering the rim.

5. Low Key: Moody & Mysterious

          • Key Light: Use one low-angle spotlight to selectively illuminate part of the face, leaving the rest in darkness.

          • Fill Light: Barely there — just enough to keep the mood without flattening the mystery.

Your Turn — Try It Out

These lighting setups are brilliant for both still photography and video. Whether you’re capturing interviews, portraits, or stylised branded content, mastering these will level-up your visual storytelling.
